Bridges

In the course of one’s life, how many bridges does one have to cross? It might be easy to count the physical ones if one really starts to keep track, but I believe it’d be impossible to do that for the metaphorical ones – isn’t it?

Luckily, with the smartphones and digital cameras at hand nowadays, it’s become easy to remember and share some of the beautiful bridges – physical, one has had the chance to see and walk on.

The first one is a beautiful bridge that I crossed on a freezing night at the end of October in Krakow, Poland. I was crossing it as part of a walking tour. My memories of that tour are here if you’d like to read.

Father Bernatek Footbridge, Krakow, Poland

One beautiful Easter weekend, I found myself in the city of Cologne in Germany. The journey had started with a train being missed because there was no announcement of it coming on another platform. But luckily in Germany, there are some rights for the passengers for which you don’t need a long bureaucratic process. So I could get onto another train – a faster one – which made me reach even earlier than the one I’d missed! Was perfect to join the walking tour and then have some time left to explore on my own, before going further towards my destination city of Aachen. And in that time, I got myself a lovely shot of this bridge. Funny thing – there were so many love-locks on this bridge, reminding me of the bridge in Paris which finally had to ban people from doing so after having had to remove 45 tonnes of locks to safeguard the bridge’s structural integrity!

Hohenzollern Bridge, Cologne, Germany

I have mentioned about my New York city trip in the previous posts. One of the nice experiences was the chance to walk on this lovely bridge, thanks to my colleague. I will always remember it as the bridge walking on which I enjoyed one huge mango, probably from Mexico, stuck on a skewer! Definitely one of the tastiest mangoes I’ve eaten – which is saying a lot considering the part of India I come from has a huge variety of really amazing mangoes.

Brooklyn Bridge, New York City, USA

And then here are some other bridges which I’ve shared before also but they deserve to be on a post just about bridges!

Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Ljubljana, Slovenia

This post is my entry for Cee’s Which Way Challenge.

  1. Very nice… reminds me of an old song called “Bridges”.

    “There’s a bridge to tomorrow
There’s a bridge from the past
There’s a bridge made of sorrow
That I pray will not last..”
