Look at this pretty door surrounded by Ivy. Feels like it would be an entrance to a home in a fairytale – doesn’t it?

Ah but no, it is the door to this massive tower!

See how small the door looks now relative to the tower?
But that’s unimportant. Important is that it was a watch tower, built some time in the 13th century in a walled town, to keep an eye on any army trying to attack the town. In the 1800s, it was decided to demolish it but a carpenter from the town carried out a violent resistance. Thanks to that, it is still standing tall and strong and I could share it here!
Also relative is the importance of the town now versus in the 13th century. Today it’s another one of those charming postcard towns with no threat from any army wishing to conquer it! So the watch tower is a decorative element now..

In this blog, I focus on sharing some of the photographs that I capture, often during my travels but also in the everyday life. If you’d like to read about my travels, you can find the stories on this blog – Reflections on the River.
Wow, great find PR, what a door and the tower looks great too.

That’s a great door, and I love the way you gave us a twist. It’s a good story, too. Yay for the carpenter.
