The Old Town-hall

In Germany, there are a ton of houses and buildings built in what is called “Fachwerk” or – Half Timbered technique. I will write a post one day about some of the most beautiful ones I have come across in the last two years. But in the meantime, I can share one of the latest pictures I captured.

It’s the Altes Rathaus – Old Town Hall, from the 15th century, in the charming town of Esslingen. I first saw it in 2022 but for whatever reason, I just took some pictures of the front of the building and left. May be because it was late evening and I was in a bit of hurry to catch the train. And from the front facade of the building, I didn’t even suspect that it was a Fachwerk house.

But a few days ago, I went there again – this time with two friends who reached there a little before me and took a different street than I did, to reach the restaurant where we were supposed to meet. After lunch, when we stroller around, they told me how pretty it is from the sides. So naturally I had to see that too. Presenting the side view for you to admire. Isn’t it as gorgeous from the side as it is from the front?

It’s a big building and holds/held offices, probably that’s why it has so many doors and windows!

In this blog, I focus on sharing some of the photographs that I capture, often during my travels but also in the everyday life. If you’d like to read about my travels, you can find the stories on this blog – Reflections on the River.
