Only in Museum #17

If you go to the Capitoline Museum in Rome, you’ll find a ton of things to see. But if you are not exhausted seeing all the exhibits in one wing, then head over to the other one through a basement and you would find yourself in a hall housing the colossal head and hand of Constantine, made of Bronze, sometime in the 4th century. The story of the hand is very interesting. Keep reading.

So the story goes like this. The Louvre in Paris had a giant bronze finger and the Capitoline in Rome had a giant bronze hand. As it so happens, the finger belonged to this hand and at some point got detached and found its way to Paris! Some five centuries after this separation, in 2021, the finger was attached to the hand and now you see a more complete hand than some years ago.. Talk about the moving finger 😉.

Submitting it to Debbie’s One word Sunday, just because coincidentally I am writing about “Hand” which is her theme for today, even though I am blatantly breaking the one word in the title rule.

Also entering it for John’s Cellpic Sunday.

Would be great if you would join the “Only in Museum” series by posting something you found catching your eye in one of your visits to the museum. Then create a pingback to this post by including the link to my post in yours. You can also give the link to your post in the comments section below. Also, tagging the post with “Only in Museum” and “OiM” would help all readers find these posts easily.

In this blog, I focus on sharing some of the photographs that I capture, often during my travels but also in the everyday life. If you’d like to read about my travels, you can find the stories on this blog – Reflections on the River.
